Freemount ICA

Freemount ICA guild was established in 1979. It was felt at the time that there was a need to form a ladies organization in the area and after an initial meeting, a committee was formed. It was decided to affiliate with the Irish Country Women‘s Association.
The first committee elected Betty Brennan as chairperson, Mary Broderick as vice chairperson, Agnes Green as secretary and Mary Nunan as treasurer.
The guild became very active with an average of 25-30 women attending regular meetings in the early years. The main areas of involvement were in community activity and of an educational nature with many guest speakers addressing the group.
Two of the main events in the calendar of the guild are the annual outing and the annual social. The ladies have travelled far and wide throughout the years.
Freemount ICA recently celebrated 25 years in existence holding a special celebration attended by a large crowd.
The guild continues to play an important role in community life in Freemount.
